Belmar Chase Returns to Ocean Ave on August 10
BELMAR, NJ (March 20, 2013) – The Belmar Chase, a 5k road race held in Belmar, NJ, will return in 2013, organizers announced today. The date has changed to Saturday, August 10th and will again feature a “Celebrity” Chase that raises money for local recreation departments along with Kids Chase races on the beach the night before.
The Belmar Chase 5K (3.1 miles) will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Ocean Avenue adjacent to Silver Lake, with prizes awarded to both overall and age-group winners.
The night before, the Belmar Kids Chase will offer sprint races on the beach for children ages 5 to 14 and a free kids’ dash for children ages 2 to 4.
“We are excited to be returning to Belmar as the Borough rebuilds from last year’s storm,” said Race Director, Rich Kenah, who as a child ran New Jersey road races with his father before realizing his dream of becoming an Olympian in 2000. “Getting people of all ages active benefits everyone. The opportunity to enjoy the beach and Belmar’s new Boardwalk will add to the enjoyment of the day.”
The Belmar Kids Chase was a crowd favorite in 2012 and returns on Friday night, August 9th. It will feature age-group races of 20 meters to 250 meters and begin at 6 p.m. on the beach near 6th Avenue. Everyone participating in the Kids Chase will receive a T-shirt and medal.
More information and registration for both races is available at www.belmarchase.com.
The Belmar Chase will again feature a “race before the race” with a Celebrity Chase. Mayors and community leaders from local towns, along with other celebrities, will compete in a handicap race on the same course, just before the main event officially starts. The first runner across the finish line wins $5000 for his or her town’s recreation department.
